Creatures 1 Photoshop Development Files
Palette (.act) Created by Jessica of Discover Albia
Swatch (.aco) Created by Romy
Version 1.0

// IMPORTANT NOTICE //

These files have been tested and confirmed to work in Adobe Photoshop CS5/CS5.1. Other programs/versions may or may not be able to open these files. Usage instructions are for Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 and may be different depending on your version of Photoshop.

// DESCRIPTION //

Creatures 1 uses a limited 256 color palette that does not have a readily accessible visual representation, which can make spriting difficult. These two Photoshop files open up the possibilities for creating and recoloring C1 images much more easily! Make sure to read the following sections for more detailed information about how to use these files. In a nutshell, the palette can be used to quickly switch an image's indexed colors and show its true representation in Creatures 1, while the swatch is useful for copying colors while editing an image.

// INCLUDED FILES //

- C1-Colors.aco (Palette and Swatch)
- C1-Palette.ACT (Palette)
- C1-Photoshop-Development-Readme.txt

// USAGE (PALETTE) //

- After editing an image for use in Creatures 1, navigate to Image > Mode > Indexed Color...
- From the Palette dropdown menu, choose Custom...
- Click on Load..., choose the C1-Palette.ACT file, and click OK twice.
- The C1-Colors.aco file may also be used in exactly the same way, and it is actually slightly more accurate.
- The image will be in 256-color mode and only use the colors that appear in Creatures 1.

// USAGE (SWATCH)

- Make sure that swatches are visible by clicking Windows > Swatches.
- From the Swatches menu in the top right of the box, click on Load Swatches... and choose the C1-Colors.aco file.
- The 256 colors in Creatures 1 will now appear and can be chosen with the eydropper tool for editing.
