"Cob" is the abreviation for Creatures Object file and designates the objects that are present in Albia, like toys, carrots, herbs, weeds etc. You can add more objects using the object injector, cobs are freely available on many sites on the net. For C1 you will find hundreds of more or less useful things, some are very useful, others are just fun. And, to tell you the truth, without those add ons Creatures would be much less interesting. How do I inject the objects that I have found on the net?I remember very well that I had no idea how to do this when I was a beginner. I had installed the first christmas pack from Cyberlife and was very disappointed to see that nothing in my world had changed. It took me some time to discover that there was a new kit in the menu, the object injector. There also was a new icon with three coloured spheres on it that starts the object injector. You should be sure to use the latest version of the injector kit which you can download from Cyberlife's website, because many new objects will not install properly with older versions. A couple of objects will only work properly when you upgrade your Creatures game to version 1.02 or 1.04. The upgrades are available for free from Cyberlife. Before injecting a new object, you should always read the readme file that the author has (hopefully) included. A general rule is that all sound files (.wav) must be copied to your creatures\sounds directory and all image files (.spr) to your creatures\images directory. The cob files are best stored in the creatures directory because the object injector will list them automatically if you put them there. You should also check the class numbers before adding a new cob. If you inject an object that uses the same script numbers as another one already present in the world, you will sooner or later get problems and crashes. Since Creatures 1 has a very limited species range (255 per genus) and since there are so many third party objects available, the probability that you try to add a cob with the same script numbers is fairly high. You will also notice that many objects have been designed especially to work with Albia. In other worlds such as Terra Nornia or Darwinia they will show up in weird locations or not match the object categories of this world. If the latter is the case, they will most probably not work correctly. Since I don't use use Albia any more, my own cobs were made to work with Terra Nornia and my own two worlds. Some of them will work with Albia, too, but I won't make any objects especially for Albia. Last changes: 28/02/04 |
