INTRODUCTION

NornPose C2 assembles graphics of Creatures 2 Norns, Grendels, or Ettins
from the individual body parts, in whatever pose you set. The completed
file can be saved as a Windows bitmap (BMP), which you can then edit as
you see fit. A common use for NornPose and NornPose C2 is to make
graphics for Web pages, in which case you'll want to convert your image
to either GIF or JPG format using another program.

GETTING STARTED

When you're setting up your image for the first time, it's important to
know what kind of creature you want to make. First of all, you must
select the species. Then, select the creature's age and sex.

The text box labeled "Breed/Moniker" requires either a single letter
representing the creature's breed (which determines its appearance), or a
four-character genetic moniker. (Breeds are listed in APPENDIX B below.)
If you enter a genetic moniker, the creature with that moniker (assuming
you have its .GEN and .S16 files in the right places) will be assembled
for you from its existing sprites; however, you must enter the correct
age, sex, and species information for it to look right, since NornPose C2
can't tell from the creature's DNA what age and sex it is supposed to be.
(It *could* be made to tell species from DNA, but for the sake of saving
development time this feature was omitted.)

Finally, the text box labeled "Creatures 2 Path" specifies the path for
Creatures 2. The default is "C:\Program Files\Creatures 2". If your
version of Creatures 2 is installed elsewhere, change this value.
THIS PART IS VERY IMPORTANT. If NornPose C2 doesn't know where to look
for the files it needs, it can't do anything, so it's important to let
the program know where to find Creatures 2 on your system.

POSING THE CREATURE

There are 14 body parts to every creature. Each has 10 possible poses,
numbered 0-9. By choosing the pose for each body part, you can assemble
the image in a great variety of ways.
(The head has additional information which can be set: You can set the
facial expression of a creature, and whether its eyes are open.)

You can pose each individual body part by selecting that part in the
drop-down list box, then changing the value in the drop-down list box
labeled "Pose". There are also boxes for adjusting the X and Y
coordinates of the part, just in case they're not aligned correctly to
begin with. Choosing -2 for X, for example, moves that particular body
part two pixels to the left.

    Pose buttons:
Sub-Limbs Set all sub-limbs to this pose. If you set the pose for
the right hip, for example, the leg and foot will take
                    the same pose.
All Parts Set all body parts to this pose.

You can make some body parts invisible, so that you can add in special
effects or overlap body parts later. One common use of this feature is to
save multiple images, one with perhaps only an arm showing, the rest
showing the rest of the body, and then use an image editor to overlap
those two images with a third graphic--for example, to make a Norn appear
    to be carrying something.

    Visibility buttons:
Sub-Limbs Set all sub-limbs to be visible or invisible, just like
                    this particular body part.
All Parts Make all parts visible (or invisible).
Toggle All Make all visible parts invisible, and vice-versa.

Now that you've set up the image, click the "Create" button on the left
side of the window to see it. If you want, you can save the image by
    clicking "Save".

VERSION HISTORY

    Version 1.02 (September 28, 1998)

        - Fixed "female bug" which caused the program to hang if a sprite or
ATT file was not found. This was especially a problem in C1 Norns,
          which had no tail.

    Version 1.01 (September 26, 1998)

        - Added support for mixed-species sprites
