Description

This agent is similar to the one that comes with the Ghost/Phantom Norns in that it allows certain creatures to become invisible. However, it functions differently and lacks the bugs that the Ghost/Phantom Norn invisibilty agent has (for example: it won't glitch out and make your creatures permanently invisible).

It uses chemical 163 to determine whether or not a creature should be invisible - if the chemical is high, it makes the creature invisible; if it's low, the creature becomes visible if it wasn't already.

As chemical 163 has a default half life of 0 (that is, it decays instantly when injected into a normal creature), you'll need to have creatures with an edited half-life of chemical 163 if you want creatures to become invisible, and some way for them to increase the chemical if you want them to become invisible on their own. The Moonshadow Grendels have an entire organ dedicated to interfacing with the chemical, but it can be as simple as editing the "Another creature has slapped me" stimulus to produce some of the chemical.

For installation, information on the grendels, etc. consult the readme for the grendels themselves.

The Moonshadow Grendels were one of my breeds that I've been meaning to update for a while, but never got around to it (especially considering that the originals didn't use the agent correctly and therefore were rather buggy).

From V1's readme: "The Moonshadow Grendels are special creatures. They have the ability to disappear from view when angry. This can be triggered by being slapped by the hand or another creature, or by smelling a norn when adolesecent or older."

V2 keeps the breed's trademark invisibility, but has a different method of going about it. The biggest difference is that they use their own agent to become invisible, as opposed to the Ghost/Phantom Norns' agent (which wasn't designed with grendels in mind, rather complicated to use, and had a few bugs). In addition, they become invisible when overly angry or scared, and will decloak when overly friendly and fertile. High amounts of norn smell increases the speed at which they cloak, but alcohol decreases it significantly.

They aren't friendly grendels in the slightest - when youth and older, they'll happily smack around even hardman norns with complete impunity...when invisible. They'll still try to beat your norns up when visible, but then they're much more vulnerable to retaliation as they are very frail (even a normal norn can outlast them in a fight). To help ensure that they cloak when attacked, they're dirty cowards much like the C2 boney grendels - hit them enough, and they'll run away. Even then, a determined hardman norn can kill one before it cloaks.

They have a few additional quirks other than their invisibility. They live slightly longer than the banshee grendels they were based on, but can't breed until adulthood (and that takes a while - a first generation moonshadow grendel reaches youth at 32 minutes, but doesn't become an adult until an hour and 40 minutes). To make up for the fact that a lot of their adult life is going to be spent invisible, the sexual cycle runs through both males and females.

Finally, they can play with pests, weeds, and beasts with no trouble.

Moonshadow Grendels come in two variants: one uses the sprites of the Banshee Grendels (Grendel B) and is purplish in color; the other uses the sprites of the standard C3/Jungle Grendel (Grendel A) and is dark reddish in color. There is otherwise no difference between the two variations.

Installation: This .zip contains the following:

  • Egg Agents for the Banshee and Jungle Moonshadow Grendels
  • The invisibility agent that the grendels use to become invisible
  • The readme for the invisibility agent with instructions for implementing it for your own breeds
  • This readme (obviously)

Put the .agent files into your "Creatures 3/My Agents" or "Docking Station/My Agents" folder, and you should be able to hatch the Moonshadow Grendels with the Norn Egg Layer or Muco, as well as inject the Invisibility Agent with the Creator or Agent Injector.

I would prefer it if you did not host this pack on your own site unless the Realm goes down and you cannot contact me.
