Breeder v1.4 (12/29/99)
by Brian Hershey

- Unzip the file Breeder1.4.ZIP and run Setup.EXE to
install, then run the program from your Start/Programs/Breeder
folder. (you must have Creatures3 running and creatures already in
the world for this program to run) .

- If you've downloaded a previous version of Breeder or the
DrivesMonitor program you can download just the application and
text file to save download time... BreederProgram1.4.ZIP.

Features...

First column - a list of each Creature's total score from all active
groups. The score is a running average of the chemical levels. The
lower the number the better for your creature :).

Second column - names of all the Creatures in your world.

Tabs 1-7 - This is where 105 chemicals are listed in ten logical
groups. The progress bars show you the level of each chemical in
the selected creature's bloodstream. The "Group Score" box shows
the current score of that group for the seleted creature. If "Active?"
is checked, that group's score will be added to the Creature's total
score in the first column.

Export Button - will export the currently selected Creature from the
second column.

Pause Button - will pause Breeder, stopping all communication
with Creatures3. Clicking again will resume.

Timer - time between refreshing drive levels, scores and names.
Less time will refresh the lists more often.

Max Norns - this will set the maximum number of Norns allowed
in your world and determine when the Auto-Export feature kicks in.

Auto-Export - When the Norn population reaches the Max Norns
setting, one third of the worst scoring Norns are exported to the
Creatures 3/My Creatures folder. The score in the first column
determines which Norns get exported.

Export Old - will automatically export to Creatures3/My Creatures
folder any creature greater than the adult lifestage.

Jump - will move the Creatures 3 camera to any creature selected in
column #2.

Rename - will rename all the creatures listed in column #2. Each
name is made up of these elements, going from left to right...
genus (n for Norns, g for grendels and e for Ettins), generation #,
gender (m or f), and age (hours and minutes).

Notes...
I hope you find this as useful as I have during your breeding runs!
The "Export Old" feature keeps the population from growing old
and stagnant during long sessions, assuring most of your
population is of breeding age. The "Jump" feature is useful to go
see why specific Creatures have levels that catch your attention.
For instance, you can easily spot the hungriest creatures and jump
to that Creature to feed or carry it to a better place. "Rename" tells
you alot of information about your Creature to help you with your
breeding decisions. You'll notice when the "Timer" is set to the
fastest... the "1" setting, it can slow down your Creatures program
because it trys to pull all the info once every second. I typically set
it to "1" when I'm working hands-on with the program, so I have
the most recent figures. For long runs I set it all the way at the
other end of the slider.

Scoring your creatures based on different groups of chemicals, you
can now do specific breeding experiments. You can breed
healthier creatures by tracking their sickness chemicals in tab #4, or
breed creatures that have high mating drives by using the mating
group in tab #3, or low levels of "comfort" chemicals in tab #1...
coldness, hotness, hunger, etc. Of course you could keep all the
groups active and breed using the overall score as well.

The "Auto-Export" feature let's you breed with no interaction for
those really long breeding runs. When the population reaches the
Max Norns setting, one third of the worst scoring Norns are exported,
freeing up space for the best scorers to continue breeding. Say after
20 or so generations you have a population that breeds well enuff to
grow on it's own for long periods. You can then select the scoring
groups you want to use, turn on Auto-Export and then just let it go!

Be sure to visit my website often for program updates, and write
me and let me know about your experiences with it. If you have a
good idea for a new breeding feature I can add it to the program! :)

Until the next generation!,
Brian :)
